Get in Touch

Ellis County Busted Mugshots is a private reference service, not a government office. It cannot confirm a person's custody status, release anyone, post bond, or retrieve an official booking record. Direct those requests to the public office that holds the relevant record.

Official Ellis County Record Contacts

Ellis County Sheriff's Office contacts are useful when the question concerns county custody, a written records request, or a criminal investigation. Records, jail, and media matters have different routes. The Public Information Officer is not the open-records office, and the current research did not verify an unmasked public records email address.

Media inquiries are directed through Dispatch. Public-records requests follow the written ECSO Open Records process, not the PIO channel. The Sheriff may route requested material for a releasability determination, so neither a same-day response nor release of every requested record is assured.

  • For a person who may still be in Wayne McCollum Detention Center custody, use the official ECSO Inmate Search or call Jail Information. The live search can show a booking photo for a current inmate, but it is not a permanent archive.
  • For a released person's booking record or booking photograph, submit a written ECSO Open Records Request. Identify the name, booking number if known, date, and agency to help locate the correct material.
  • For a city-police arrest, use the relevant city Police Records unit and ask which agency holds the report or image. A city event does not by itself establish that the person was transferred to WMDC.
  • For a person in state prison, use the Texas Department of Criminal Justice offender search. It locates state custody but does not provide public inmate photographs.
  • For federal or immigration custody, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator or the ICE Online Detainee Locator. Neither source is a public booking-photo service.
